Orlando United Day (June 12, 2017)

Orlando United Day – A Day of Love and Kindness took place on June 12, 2017 in Orlando, FL. This day was dedicated to honor the memory of the 49 innocent Pulse victims.

I was chosen to field produce for our digital media department. I was on-site at the Pulse Nightclub where friends, families, and supporters gathered to pay their respects to the 49 lives that were taken too soon.

With a year between us I witnessed tears, hugs, and acceptance. I have never felt so connected to a community as I did that day.

What I took away from the day is this: Though our hearts may be heavy, our Pulse is strong. Evil can never, and will never divide us.

We will not let hate win.

Update on myself..

I originally made a WordPress with the intention to write about my adventures in the South. As we all know, life gets busy, and I just didn’t keep up with writing (and to be honest, I didn’t write once since I have been down here). So here I am.. hello!

I have been in Orlando, FL since October 2015. Since the big move I have worked with FOX 35 as an assignment editor. I have covered the 2016 Presidential election, hurricanes, child attacked by an alligator at Disney, and the worst mass shooting in modern history. Now don’t get me wrong, the news that I cover in Florida isn’t always this extreme and heartbreaking. I’ve covered plenty of #FloridaMan stories and a dog having his best day ever.

Besides work I have traveled around Florida to explore. I’ve gone to the beach, kayaking, and I even went snorkeling with the manatees. Snorkeling with the manatees was such an incredible experience, I would recommend it to anyone. My boyfriend and I went to this place on the west coast and had such an incredible time. Now this wasn’t a place where you jump into the pool and swim with manatees. We took a boat ride and snorkeled around to find the little creatures. It was winter time for them, so they were in with the warmer weather. At one point everyone was looking in my direction and I realized what I thought was sand underneath me was actually a manatee swimming below me!!

My brother visited for a weekend and we went to Tampa to tour Cigar City Brewing and we went to a Lightning game. Now that was a great time. We even found a park in Orlando named after us.. “Delaney Park”.

And of course my parents have come down to visit.. plenty of times.

So far my time in Florida has definitely been an adventure. Cheers to many more.

Shannon’s Moving to Florida

Good morning, you beautiful people!

I am excited (yet nervous!) to announce that I have accepted a job at FOX-35 Orlando. My job role with FOX 35 – WOFL will be the same title that I have now: assignment editor. I will be responsible for gathering story information from various news sources and determine the newsworthiness. I will also write, edit and post stories on the station’s website and social media platforms. My first day is scheduled for October 26th, cue the anxiety. I’ve got a lot to do before moving down – like finding a place to live and figuring out how to get the bunnies down…

This was not a simple decision to make. I love my job at Time Warner Cable (TWC) News, absolutely love it. It is just time to take the next step in my career. I have been with TWC News for the past two years (TWO YEARS TOMORROW 9/27!) and it is with them that I have learned the trait of being an assignment editor. I want to thank TWC News for taking a chance on me and giving me a wonderful start to my career in broadcasting.

I’ve never done a move before, like ever. I guess you could count me moving to college as a “move,” but my college was closer to me than my high school (a whopping 3 miles away from my house). So this is all new to me. Feel free to follow my journey as I make the trek from Albany, NY to Orlando, FL. I can’t promise everything will run smoothly, hell I know times will be the worst. But I can promise you that an adventure will be had.

And to all my New Yorkers — feel free to come and visit me when winter hits. My door will always be open for you.
